“It feels like this has been a subject of speculation for ages, but it’s finally official: Warner Brothers has confirmed to EW that gossip maven Perez Hilton is set to launch his very own imprint with the label in the near future. In a conversation with EW’s Tim Stack for a story that will be on newsstands tomorrow, Perez said he’s serious about entering the music industry: ‘I have an ear, which is really important in the music world — to be able to hear a hit and to be able to know who has a good song or not… I’m more than just an A&R person. I’m also a marketing person. I’m also a manager.’
Perez plans to announce his first signee by the end of this month, and he hopes to put together a tour soon after. Bear in mind that he can lay claim to helping introduce the world to talents like Mika and Lady Gaga — ‘I saw the potential in her from the very beginning before any one else,’ he added. So how do you think he’ll do as the head of a label imprint? Have you discovered any new music through Perez Hilton?”

WHAT. Maybe it’s just that we have very different tastes; that Perez’s audience is mainly comprised of those kids who for some reason rush to have the first comment (“1ST BITCHESSSSS!!1″) on everything he posts…but I completely disagree with Warner Brothers for giving this opportunity to Perez Hilton. I do read his blog frequently…but not for his crappy dance pop picks, I read the blog for his “talent” — using Paint to alter celebrity photographs and report with catty snark all the day’s celebuvomit. It’s addictive: but it’s celebrity gossip, not some self-absorbed queen and his ["oh my god, there's a driving beat...what's this? Repetitive whiny electro shit? I'm bopping my played-out hipster-esque hair? It must be PERFECT MUSIC"] audio tastes, that I’m interested in.
He has no “ear” worth extensively mentioning…and the music he does choose to write up, he overpromotes until he’s beaten to a pulp the idea of a new, exciting artist. He shamelessly gushes about them on the site, apparently becomes their best friend and offers them round-the-clock grapes and foot massages and you just know he prays for any and all photo ops. He either wants to be them or wants to do them. That’s not a true music lover. In my opinion, Miami Perez should just stick to what he knows about music (shaking his big ol’ booty on whatever dance floor he can get) and stay out of this industry.
